Re: PARTS PLACE Inc.!!! Address

PartsPlace INC

In 5 years they have sent me 2 catalogs (both the same). So it’s just
as well to call them.

Sometimes they have been really helpful, sometimes not.

Re: Windshield wipers wipe too far?

Odd, I’ve had this happen on both my 88 Fox and my 93 Corrado within a few
weeks of purchase. I have to wonder if the assembly lines just don’t
specify a high enough torque for the nut…..

Anyway, to solve the problem, there is a nut right at the pivot point of
the wiper arm. It is usally covered by a plastic cover to protect the nut
from the elements. The wiper arm itself is held in place by friction.
There are splines on the shaft, but the inside of the arm where the shaft
goes in is usually smooth. Position the arm about where you think it
should be and tighten up the nut. Run the wipers to test the sweep
coverage, adjust as necessary.

How do I get '84 GTI service bulletins

Hi all,

I’ve got an ’84 GTI that I bought new – now has 120K+ miles.  Haven’t had any
major problems…yet…and I’m trying to keep it that way!  I do just about all
my work myself, unless it’s really miserable weather and I don’t feel like
laying on the ground in the rain!  Anyway, I’m trying to get my hands on all of
the service bulletins and recalls VW has issued on my car.  I’ve got a number
for some kind of "auto safety" government department (800-424-9393), but I’m
betting they only cover safety recalls.  Can anyone give me any clues for
further sources?

Thanks,
Dave

'87 Wolfsburg Cabrio-What wheels are standard?

What wheels were standard on ’87 Wolfsburg Cabriolets?  I know the
14" GTI alloys were standard on ’85 Wolfsburg Cabriolets.  Did VW stay
with these wheels until ’87, or did they change to something else?  If
there was a change, please describe the wheels which were standard in
’87.  Thanks.

Jetta III — Timing Belt Interval?

There’s no mention of scheduled timing belt replacement in
the service booklet of my ’94 Jetta 2.0 liter 8V.  The dealer
says it should be done after 60,000 miles, just like the
16 valve engines.  Does this make sense?

Has anyone checked this with VWOA?

Diesel hot start problems

My diesel has started giving me problems starting when it is
hot. It starts instantly when cold.  When hot it cranks for
maybe 30 seconds then fires up with some smoke ( just like a
cold start when the glow plugs fail ).  I disconnected the
temp sensor for the glow plug relay and now heat the glow
plugs whenever I start the car and it starts fine.  The glow
plug relay and sensor have been replaced.

Any clues?
