VW 5th Gear conversion kit question

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:02 am

I know of the popular .75 fifth gear reduction for VW GTI 020 trans. but does
anyone know of a supplier who sells reductions less than .75? Say .65?

Leaking head gasket

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:02 am

I think the head gasket on my car is leaking…
umm there seems to be white smoke coming out of the
exhaust and there seems to be a little water/coolant
leaking from the driver’s side of the engine, where
the head mounts to the block… now I am wondering
is my head warped, or is it just the gasket messed up
and causing the leak of water??? Ummm I dunno if the
car ever overheated b4 since I am not the original
owner… and it is a G60 corrado… in case that makes
a difference… Oh well hopefully the head is not warped.

Jetta will not start

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:02 am

Ok on my sister’s jetta I just replaced the
tranny (self machining problems) and now the
thing will not start after I put in the new tranny.
The engine will turn over with the battery and
when i tried to jump it it still would not start.
Any clues out there to what might be causing the
problem??? It started fine before I took the tranny
out… but that was like a week ago.. and if the
battery were dead, having it jumped would still
start it right??? Hmm i am majorly stumped now :(

Diesel Quirk

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:01 am

Sometimes when I start out, after idling for a long time, I notice that my
power drops right off and the engine is having a hard time idling.

This generally is noticed just after starting off and driving to the end of
the street where I stop at a stop sign.

If I give the engine a few revs and drive off, all is OK in a few moments.

Anybody have any ideas what is going on?

It is a 1986 VW Jetta Turbo diesel.

I haven’t looked at the speedo in a Fox, but I wonder if you have an
elapsed mileage counter in your speedo cable that is dragging. Did
your replacement cable go from the transmission all the way to the
back of the speedo gauge itself?? If it did, then I can only guess
that it is truly as you say and it’s "in the speedo". Unfortunately, I
don’t know a fix if that is the case. I’m not all that certain I even
have a full comprehension on how a speedo registers the speed in teh
first place, and I’ve had a few apart… Seems like a drag thing

This is entirely possible.  I would only go to a lower temperature
thermostat and thermoswitch if I lived south of the Mason Dixon Line.  The
summers are much harsher and the winters not as brutal as in the north.
Unless you are experiencing a problem of some kind, don’t change it
anyway.

Fuel tank repair questions…

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:32 am

Every day the leak on my 1980 PUs fuel tank seems to get a little
worse… any suggestions to what I can use to fix this short of
removing the tank and getting it welded.  Does anyone know where I can
get a NEW tank for my Pick-up?  The dealer laughed at me when I asked
them to order in one.

Thanks!

'84 VW GTI…will G60 engine fit!?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:32 am

Hi all!  I just bought a 1984 VW GTI with 106,000 miles.  I know
this engine is getting tired, so I was wondering if anyone knew if a G60
engine from a Corrado would fit?  If so, will there be any unforseen
difficulties!!!
