TDI Diesel Parts Availability

I’m wondering if anyone with a TDI in the US has had any experience getting
parts for a repair…
On Saturday we were at a dealer looking to buy/drive a TDI. I saw that they
had had 2 sedans on Friday. But on Saturday afternoon, one was sold and one
was disabled. It had had its alternater removed to send to a dealer in NJ,
which had sold a car with a defective alternator. They had pulled the
alternator from a car in NH to ship to NJ, because presumably there were no
parts available except by stripping a car on the lot. I don’t know if that
is going to scare me off from buying one, but I am more nervous than I was!

'81 Scirocco Owners manual FS

That’s right, ’81 Scirocco owner’s manual up for grabs. Make me an offer
if your’s didn’t come with one. Offer me enough, and I’ll keep the rattier
of the two I have. :) Offer a whole bunch and I might throw a Chilton in.
But they’re not worth much anyhow

Strange Corrado SLC Problem

I’ve got a 1993 Corrado SLC w/ 44k miles. At about 35k mi the car
started making this wierd shrieking noise when I start to move forward
from a stop in 1st gear. When I let out the clutch it’ll shriek for
about
1-1.5 sec and then stop. The car moves forward fine and the clutch
does not slip, it just makes that wigged out annoying noise. Any
ideas?
thanks much.

HELP> A2 tranny in an A1

I am in the process of putting an A2 tranny in my ’80 GTI.  After
figuring out the shift linkage, I have come across another problem.  The
CV joints are the larger ones (10mm larger than the Rabbit ones).  The
shafts from the other car, one is the same the other is about 1/4 inch
longer.  How can I get this thing hooked up?  The inner CV won’t fit on
the old shaft either!  I also know the flanges aren’t interchangable
either.  One is the spring loaded type, the other requires a puller.

So my car sits there until I can figure this puzzle out!  So much for an
easy job for a Sunday…

My Odometer Kicked The Bucket

The digital part of my Odometer on my ’93 slc corrado kicked the
bucket. It went off for a while and now keeps resetting itself
arbitrarily. Do I look in the ECU or the Odometer module itself for
the problem? I’m sure these are really expensive new.

thanks

Polished Throttle Body Difference?

Got a nifty Dremel Moto Tool Pro and was told I could polish the
inside of the Throttle body for an increase in HP. Does it work? Any
other things I could smooth out to gain some hp from?

Thanks

Help fixing a Golf II fan?

Hello,

I’ve got a Golf Country ’92 and the indoor fan just recently stopped
working. The Country is basically the series II Golf. Where is the
fan located? I heard someone say that you have to change the coal in
the DC motor. Terrible driving in rain without the fan – windshield
dews up quick. Any help would be appreciated.

What's the best DUSTLESS brake pad?

I want to get my 82 A1 Convertible on the road.  I have  installed 9.4
inch vented rotors in the front and discs in the back.  Since I am
lazy about car washing, I would like to know what the best DUSTLESS
brake pad is?  I have been using Repco MetalMasters for years and like
them just fine.  I tried Mintex Silverline on my Pickup (Caddy) and do
not really like them.  Time marches on and I keep hearing of wonderful
pads (which make lotsa dust) and really want some that are clean.
