MFA Problem/Question

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:47 pm

I have a 1991 VW Corrado G60 and something odd happened last weekend.

Saturday, for no apparent reason, the car battery died.  I went ahead,
got a
jump start and drove around for awhile until the battery was charged.
The
battery seems to be working fine now, however the MFA computer seems to
be brain
dead now.  It won’t do anything. The display reads 1:18 and I can’t
switch to any
modes or get the 1:18 to even change.

Any suggestions would be appreciated…

Thanks,

Kevin

vibrations :(

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:47 pm

Hello again,
As you may remember, I have been chasing a shimmy in my steering
wheel for some time (intermittant @ highway speeds).  I finally believe
that I have pinpointed the source.  I think it is caused by a failing
inner C.V. joint.  The only problem is, I don’t know which one.  Is there
any way to identify which on is the culprit, before I take everything
apart.  If this can’t be done, what should I look for after I have the
driveaxle out of the car.  What is recommended for a replacement, new CV
joint, or rebuilt axle shaft.  Thanks for any advice.

Thinking about buying a 87 Audi 4000 Quattro

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:46 pm

Like the subject says, I am looking at buying an 87 Audi 4000 Quattro.
Besides the obvious used car stuff, what is their to look out for in terms
of
reliability? There is 127,000 kms on it and i’ll probably take a look at
it after
the weekend so I would appreciate any response…

Also, what compatibility is there with VW parts and/or what mods are
readily
available?

Thanks,

Dan Berar

Squeaky suspension

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:46 pm

Suddenly, out of nowhere–A NEW NOISE!!!!!!!!!

I HATE THIS.

Here you go, guys:
It’s kinda like my old noise, the really wierd one, except–its coming
from my front suspension, mostly right, it is a literal "squeak".  A combo
of the kinda noise a bad belt makes, with a metallic squeak, possibly from
my springs.  It speeds up as the car speeds up.  I hate it.

Probably unrelated:
I usually run my Illumina shocks on 2front/3rear.  Last nite I changed
them all to 1(softest) after I put it away.  Today, I took it out and the
noise was there, outta nowhere.  I set the shocks back to 2/3, but the
noise still lurks.  Help?

Thanks

Connecting rear fog lights on '96 Passat

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:45 pm

Are there simply plugs behind the tail lenses and bulb housings needed to
connect rear fog lights or does it require addtional wiring? The switch
for the front fog lights work but the rear lights do not come on. Thanks!

My Corrado G60 does 100 miles per gallon!!!!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:07 pm

I have a ’90 Corrado G60, and I’ve been having some problems with the
trip computer. It always used to read about 24 mpg, but recently it started
reading about 35 mpg, and one day it read 99 mpg!!! Now it again reads
35 mpg. I checked to see if it was correct by carefully measuring the fuel
I pump in and the miles I travel. My results are 24 mpg, which proves that
there is something wrong with the computer readings.

The way I ASSUME it works is that the computer simply divides the miles
traveled from the odometer (which I’m sure is reading correctly) by the
amount of fuel comsumed (which I don’t know how it measures).

Does anybody happen to know what could be the cause of the error and how
that could be fixed?

Any help would be appreciated.

Rani.

WTB: Jetta GLI

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:06 pm

I am looking for an A2 Jetta GLI, 8v or 16v, in the Bay Area.  Mine is in sad
shape, so one that has a straight body and is in need of an engine or other
mechanical work would be great.  Also, if minor body work is needed, that’s
fine, but the frame must be straight.  If anybody is even thinking of
selling, please let me know by e-mail.  Thanks.

Dead Rabbit. Help!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:06 pm

I was driving on the freeway in my 78 rabbit and started losing
power slowly at first, then more and more quickly over the course of about
a mile.  The temprature light came on right before the exit and I did the
turn on the heater…etc. type stuff, then the engine died completely at
the end of the exit.  At this point, theres a bunch of burning oil smoke
slowly comming up from the hood.  After it cooled down, I started poking
around and found one of the hoses to the water pump had ruptured, which
explained the over-heating.  I tried turning the car on again and it tried
to turn over (but didn’t), so I know the engine isn’t seized.
Any suggestions on what I need to check for and/or fix to get it
running again?  It’s a 78 with automatic and a 1.6L.
        Thanks in advance!
-Jason
