Fox Performace Upgrades

I have just recently bought a ’93 VW Fox Wolsfburg Edition 2 door sedan.
I have been following the "Fox engine mods" thread since it originated
because I feel that the engine is the only thing from making this an
outstanding car.  I just love blasting around town in it!  Does anybody
know of a aftermarket dealer that specializes in performance upgrade parts
for Foxes?  I already know about the exhaust system and that will be the
first thing to go but how about sway bars, cams, ground effects, etc..
What magazine should a guy purchase for Fox tech tips?  Any help would be
most appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Marto

Re: bincancel:8 large binaries:AR434:@@NCM

Large binary posts do not belong in unmoderated discussion groups.

I run a program that searchs for, and issues advisory cancels for,
large binaries in the akr, biz, comp, misc, news, rec, and sci
hierarchies.

I have issued 8 cancels for large binary files (average size 330,979
characters – total size 2,647,835 characters) posted to 3 different
unmoderated discussion groups in the comp and rec hierarchies as
follows:
   5 comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action
   2 rec.music.artists.queensryche
   1 rec.autos.makers.vw.watercooled

This pointer is being posted to each affected group listed above.
Follow-ups are directed to news.admin.net-abuse.misc.

If you want to see exactly which file was deleted from a particular
group, read the full report in news.admin.net-abuse.announce.  The
full report can also be found in alt.nocem.misc and alt.retromod.
Look for AR434 in the subject, or, if your reader supports it, use
this URL: news:ARMM-Report-434@redpoll.mrfs.oh.us

The criteria used to search for this batch of large binaries were:
NEWSGROUPS: Unmoderated akr, biz, comp, misc, news, rec, or sci
               (except for comp.binaries.apple2, comp.bugs.2bsd,
                and rec.games.bolo)
BINARY: base64, binhex, uuencode, and xbtoa encoded files, etc.
   SIZE: > 100,000 characters [(size * (# of parts - .5)), if multi-part]

If you must post a binary to Usenet, please post it *only* to an
appropriate binaries newsgroup such as alt.binaries.misc, and do *not*
crosspost it to non-binaries groups.  Then, if you like, post something
in the appropriate discussion group telling people where to find the
binary in the binaries group (a pointer to the binary).  This will
permit news administrators and users to decide for themselves whether
to receive the binary files.

Please direct public feedback to news.admin.net-abuse.misc and private
feedback to r…@redpoll.mrfs.oh.us.  Thanks.

Best wishes,
Dick

How long do gas-filled struts stay gas-filled?

Hi all,
Given all of the discussion regarding performance shocks and
struts, I’m curious: has anyone every checked aging struts to see if they
retain their gas charge over time?  I’m wondering if the "gas-filled"
attraction disappears pretty quickly, as it’s hard for me to imagine
small molecules such as nitrogen not escaping a seal over time…
        Just curious,

Pre-Waterfest Net Gathering?

Here I go, making more suggestions. :-)

Is anybody from the group here interested in having a "net" get-together
the day before Waterfest?

I don’t know how many people are driving up/down on Saturday (or even
Friday).  Maybe we can all get together late Saturday afternoon and kick
each other’s tires before we kick everybody else’s on Sunday. I was
thinking maybe a BYO picnic around 5:00 PM at Harriman State Park (20
miles north of the show site).  I haven’t investigated the possibility
yet, but was curious if I should.  Any interest?????

Fox engine mods?

Howdy,

I was wondering if anyone knows of any tricks I can use to make my
girlfriend’s ’88 Fox get out of its own way.
I believe the engine is rated at 81hp. A bit low for her tastes and
mine. If I am not mistaken this is the same basic engine as a Jetta or
Golf of about the same vintage. So why is it such a dog?
My thoughts so far are running toward checking the specs for the
various models as far as piston crown shape and cam profile and
dropping in a better cam, maybe just one from a Golf. I think the CIS
would take to the new cam with little or no adjustment.

  Any comments, ideas or warnings?

                           Thanks in advance!

VR6 Spark Plugs … Passat GLX

I recall reading a thread not too long ago discussing plugs
for the VR6.  The local foreign parts store does not have a
listing for the three prong NGK plugs that the dealer sells.
They also do not list a Bosch Platinum plug for the VR6.
Both Bosch and NGK list single prongs.  I had previously tried
the Bosch Super plugs and must of had a bad set as I had a
serious miss at idle.  As a result I am leary of those plugs.
My parts guy recalls several months ago trying to get the
three prong NGK’s and NGK claims they are not available "after
market".

Idealy I would like to find a Platinum or some other long
lasting plug for this application.  I would settle for the
three prong NGK’s at an aftermarket price. I seem to
recall some talk about some AC plugs.  Lastly, any experience
with the single prong plugs would be appreciated.

I am assuming all VR6′s use the same plug and hope maybe there
is an application out there for a Corrado.

If it matters, I do almost all highway driving and a lot of
it.  About 35,000 a year.  You can see why a longer lasting
plug is what I need.

If you could post and email me that would be great as I don’t
get into the newsgroup frequently.

Thanks,

Re: A1 rear wheel alignment

Bill Aronson (aron…@fmis02.nsc.com) wrote:

Wear like this is usually more related to the toe, not the camber.
Shimming is still probably the right thing to do, just in a
slighly different location.

My ’93 Passat had a rear tire wear problem due to the toe-out being at
the outer limit of the spec.  I was able to get the dealership to
replace the left rear stub axle.  This brought the toe angle to
15 minutes from 25 minutes.  It also brought the thrust angle to
just about dead on.  Tire wear looks fine so far.

Running out of fuel is bad, but what about changin a fuel filter?

It is common knowledge (based on a number of recent threads I’ve
noticed) that running out of gas generally stresses the fuel system and
can lead to problems.  Specifically in the transfer pump and fuel pump
if they are continually worked while lacking fuel.
I have been told, however, that to change the fuel filter and the
mini-filter up by the distributer, it is ok to disconnect the fuel pump
wiring harness (back at the pump itself) and then start the car.   I assume
that this will get rid of a lot of the fuel and pressure in the lines so that
not as much comes pouring out when you remove the filters.  So, will this
procedure hurt anything?  Or is it ok since you will just start the car, it
will die right away, and then you won’t start it again until after the system
is back in one piece.  I assume of course, that after changing the filters,
the first "restart" will require a relatively long wait while the transfer
pump reestablishes fuel pressure.
        TIA for any comments.
