There was a thread quite a while back about how Golfs tend to slips their
belts when going through puddles on the road.
With my new 85 Golf, and a nasty rainstorm I experienced just this, and am
looking for a solution.
Anyone?
Thanks,
Jud.

When taking off the fuse box cover, I noticed that the insulating foam was wet,
and indeed, some water was leaking through the cavity on this (rainy) day. Now,
I just had a blower motor wire replaced (I wasn’t told if it was bad due to
corrosion), and wonder what other problems are in store for me.
I read stories from time to time, about VW owners replacing weather-stripping
around their doors, however, I think (without thorough inspection), that the
water is probably rolling down the windshield, into some engine cavity, and down
into the fusebox.
Has anyone else seen a problem like this? Given the fact that the car is only 4
years old, and that I regularly treat all of the door/hood seals with silicone,
I’m surprised that it might be a leaky seal, but I’m up for anything.

The wife wants a new car, she is driving an Explorer now. She always
wants the trend car. Owned a mini-van, 1st in the neighborhood, own an
urban assalt vehicle, again 1st year out. Now she wants something
different, it looks like she has settled on a Passat GLX VR6. She has had
an automatic in the last 2 cars.
What I need from the men: Is this car going to be a pain in my ass as far
as maintaining it. The ford products were drive out of the dealers lot
and never had to go back for defects/problems.
FROM YOUR WIFE: Do you like the car? Which is better, automatic or the
manual 5 speed? My wife drives 20K miles a year city/highway 30/70% mix.
I drove the car yesterday and other than the steering wheel being too far
away (I’m a big guy, 6’3"). The adaptive automatic was a little different
, slow out of the gate. I don’t see anything wrong with the car. Plus
it’s about 5k less than a new Explorer. I will only be driving it about
10% of the time so she has to be happy with it, not me.
How close to invoice price can I get the dealer down to?
Any other comments/tips/hints about the car are welcome.
Please respond via e-mail

I picked up part of this spoiler at the Litchfield Bug-Inn last Sunday
and need the two side pieces that actually wrap around the side of the
car.
If anyone knows of these parts or have them please tell me!
Also looking for a driver’s side fender for the same 80 Scirocco.

Hi All,
One of the things that isnt quite right about the 82 Rabbit L that my
wife and I just bought is the speedo. The odometer doesnt work and
indicated speed is about 90% of true speed (50mph indicated is really
55, 60mph indicated is actually about 66, etc.) If anyone has a speedo
that they would like to sell for cheap, I’d like to know. Otherwise, I
will be forced to deal with the local junkyards. BTW, I would also be
interested in the complete instrument cluster if it has a tach!
Thanks, and enjoy,
Ben Pender
I’ve got everything for the cruise control on my Rabbit Truck except the
linkage for the throttle body. The engine is a 16V with the A2 manifold that
has the throttle body on the passenger side. The thing is, I haven’t seen a
16V car equipped with cruise control from the factory. Does anyone on the
group have such an animal? If not I’ll have to start fabricating agian, but
I’d rather use a known design if it already exsists.
TIA

I own a 1993 Eurovan, purchased new. It is in the shop as much as out,
and VW cannot seem to fix it. I am not informed about recalls, etc. Do
others have similar problems?
Any Scirocco owners who would like to be on/receive a list of
other Scirocco owners for the purpose of information exchange,

Does anyone know of a source for the 27mm internal-drive hex wrench/
socket needed to remove the plug that covers the timing mark on
an ’86 GTI? After much searching around I finally found a place that
had the part number listed, but their supplier is out of stock and
it will be at least two weeks before they can get one in.
Mail-order stores that will ship quickly, or a source in the south
San Francisco bay area ranging from Redwood City to Santa Clara,
would be preferable.
Thanks,
Andre
