first off the car idle speed starts off slow and ruff around 8500-9000
at it’s high untill the car warms up then it runs faster and faster till
around 3000rpm and the car dies and I have to wait till the engine cools
down before it will start again this process takes about 15 to 20 min .

MkI GTI Bosch MP9 update
Hi chaps
Does anyone know of Mac/PC software to interface with
with a Bosch MP9 ECU that enable you to modify the Fuel map?
I have tossed the old K-jetronic and fitted MP9 with the hope of
increased performance and economy, but the dyno readings show
the standard software being too lean at part throttle and rich at idle
and WOT.
I am not interested in fitting aftermarket "ECU Bridges" but rather
want to map the ECU software correctly.
Can anyone suggest a remedy?
"Check Engine" Light reset – OBD-I
The timing belt schreded on my 93 VW Jetta. After replacing it, the
"Check Engine" light comes on. I have loacted the 2 black and 2 white
OBD-I plugs behind the covers below the heater console, but I don’t know
how to reset the "Check Engine" light.
Any help would be greatly appreaciated!
Thanks
Looking for Passat info/advice
I have a ’90 Toyota Camry that I have loved for many years. But it
looks like it’s time to get a new car. II am very Toyota-biased but
I’ve looked around and one of my car choice possibilities is the VW
Passat GL (5-speed). I really like the idea of the Passat; however, I
have read a lot about them and have a few concerns, mostly about cost
of parts, bad dealership service, and faulty coils. So I guess my main
questions might be:
1. I know that the coil problem is now under a recall as of earlier
this year, but if I bought a new 2003 Passat now, would it have the
bad coils or replaced ones? Is there a way to check, by date of
manufacture or some other way?
2. If I take the car to my own mechanic for everything, is the
warranty voided? Do I have to have the dealership perform all services
to the car?
3. Is cost of parts prohibitive? And how reliable are the Passats in
terms of having to have parts replaced often?
Any information is appreciated. Thanks so much.

They interchange, but there are some differences between the various
models and incarnations of those 1.8L 8V engines. The earlier ones got
solid lifter heads, the later ones got hydraulic lifter heads. Also,
some got higher compression from different pistons. You can swap the
parts around and "upgrade" your engine, but there are some
differences.

I think the Foxes I’ve seen have CIS-Lambda. That’s CIS with an Oxygen
Sensor and a "frequency valve" on the fuel distributor. If your fuel
distributor buzzes when the car is running, thats a normal
characteristic of CIS-Lambda. Also, CIS-Lambda has a control pressure
regulator on the side of the block (left side on your Fox, front on a
Rabbit/Golf/Jetta).

I’m not sure the exact hp and ratings of the Fox engines. Do you know
the engine code? The code is stamped on a flat spot on the block
between cylinder #3 and cylinder #4, kind of above the distributor.
The Fox engines I’ve seen have really small valves and hydraulic
lifters. The small size of the valve limits air flow and horsepower.
They also have the low compression pistons (8.5:1 CR).

2900 pounds is probably the GVWR, which is the rated maximum carrying
capacity of the suspension and chassis. I doubt that your car is
actually that heavy. The Fox sedans were heavier than Jettas, but they
should be around 2400 pounds or so in normal driving trim.

Lots of things could cause this. Assuming the injection is CIS-Lambda,
the most likely causes are the coolant temperature switch or the
control pressure regulator. Testing the control pressure regulator
requires a pressure guage setup. The procedures are in the Bentley
service manual. It’s highly recommended that you get one for your Fox.
You also want to check for vacuum leaks and cut off any other
"alternate sources" of unmetered air (vacuum leaks).
BTW, You should probably post questions about your Fox to
rec.autos.makers.vw.watercooled instead of rec.autos.makers.chrysler.

Help fold down back seat — 1995 Cabrio
I dont have the owners manual
I cant seem to find any way to fold down the back seats in a 1995 Cabrio. I
see a loop used to pull it towards the front of the car, but Im guessing its
locked somewhere and I just cant find the switch to unlock it. Can someone
tell me where is this switch, or what Im doing wrong in order to get the
back seat to fold down. I need access to my trunk from the back seat.
Thanks!
