my 94 golf III makes scary noise when i tilt open and close the sunroof.
it sounds like short of lubricant. does it need regular lubricant
treatment on the rail and other parts?
thanx.

Hi
As you may or may not know I have a 1999 Golf TDI. I just got back from a
long trip a week or so ago (1000+ Kms) of very hard driving on the engine
(straight highway, at good speed, then country highways with winding roads,
heavy acceleration, going up steep hills with 4 people and luggage, using
engine compression to go down hills – automatic transmission). Anyhow, it
was a nice trip, got good fuel economy… but now I have noticed my fuel
economy is being sustained, and I am back to my normal city and short
distance highway driving…. is this normal, was my engine "cleaned out" per
say? I am happy, so there is no problem, just wanted to know if I should try
to work in a good long trip every few months or something. I put on enough
KMs in the year, but its mostly short distances, and a lot of
starting/stopping (the reason why the automatic wasn’t looking too bad when
I found out I could only get a hold of an automatic TDI Golf).
I noticed that power delivery was a little sluggish at first, but by the end
of the trip the engine seemed a little bit more responsive… I still wish I
had a manual transmission for a trip like that; with all the passing, and
accelerating, and hill climbing that I was doing… I even considered taking
the A/C-less 1991 5 speed Golf, but its 12 year old timing belt, and its
less comfortable seats and cabin ambiance swayed my descision (that and my
friends would have physically injured me I think), plus why should I take
what is now basically my brothers car
, wouldn’t want him drivng the new
one you know
.
No problems on the trip, the car is now washed and clear of all bug related
abuse on the paint. Nary an engine light came on
, and the little car was
praised for having a comfortable cabin (stuck short people in the back…
knee room is a smidge too tight for me back there), great A/C system, and a
very nice "club like" stereo system.
Well I certainly did it today! I work on construction sites which are very
dusty and dirty. Every Friday I usually wash to car at the local wash.
Today I decided to hose down the engine bay as it was very dusty and dirty.
I left the car running and what I thought was gently hosed the interior
down. The car ran while I hosed the rest of the exterior off. As I was
finishing off it sputtered and stalled. I then tried to restart it….no
go. I sprayed WD40 on all the wires and still no joy. I pushed the car
over to the air hose and used the compressed air on all connectors. Still
no go. My mechanic stated that the sensors if wet may tell the computer to
shut down the fuel pump, which is what I think happened. I left the car at
the gas station for the weekend hoping it will dry out. Has this happened
to anyone else? And what have you done to aid in drying it out. I want to
be prepared in case it doesn’t start when I go to get it on Monday morn.
It is a 98 Jetta with the 2.0L engine.
Thanks for any and all help and any ridicule.

1998 VW Jetta TDI:
Anybody have any idea what could be causing a whooshing noise
everytime I get into the powerband? It intesifies when the turbo
kicks in. Just up and started out of the blue a couple of days ago –
no build up or anything. Fluids are all good, couldn’t find any
unattached hoses or anything. Loss of power as well – I don’t think
the turbo is kicking in anything extra when it should be. Anybody
have any ideas?
Thanks.

Anyone use this??? Bentley recommends this to clean dirty injectors. Where
can you buy it (other than @ the dealer)?
Thnx!
Hey all,
I have an ’01 Jetta GLX with 34,000 miles on it, auto tranny. In the
last week, reverse doesnt always seem to engage when I put the car in
reverse. "R" is lighted on the dash and on the gear shifter itself,
and the thumb button is working properly. (The button has a tendancy
to stick on occasion, but I fix it with some WD40.)
Sometimes, when you put the car in reverse, it sits there like it was
in neutral. Putting it back to park, and then back to R has always
worked so far.
Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to this.
Any ideas? I’m thinking of making an appt @ VW as soon as I can.

I have owned a bunch of Rabbits the best one was a diesel. I always wanted a
cabrio and now have TWO!! My wife’s 90
needs a rt. front fender, grill and hood. (It hit a deer) Also need an
airbag and whatever parts go into an airbag repair.
The string on airbags lately was LONG on talk but slim on usable
information!!
In N.Y. state it is not legal to sell second hand airbags but I bet I could
find a junky (play on words) to sell me a steering wheel!
O.K. Seriously who has done this job and can tell me how to go about it??
will be working on these rag tops for a while so want parts manuals and
service manuals. Fiche , CD, whatever.
Dan CFII, AP.ect. ect.
My wife was driving her 90 Cabriolet the other day and overfilled the oil.
Now the car won’t start. I removed the plugs and all 4 of them were coated
with oil. I put new plugs in but they too came back out covered in oil. I
drained off about 1 quart of oil. The engine is a 1.8L with 180,000 miles.
Will the oil drain back down and then I can put new plugs in it or am I
looking at redoing the head? Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have lots of parts left from this passat doors, seats, calipers, dash
let me know if you need anything.
Where is a good place to order performance chips for my 91 passat?
I guess if anyone had the .bin from theirs I could just program my own chip.
