VW Passat Recall

Hi

A quick question, I rang a VW dealer to get the security code for the radio,
and while they were looing for it on the computer, they said that my car has
an outstanding recall, something about a track rod end repair /
modification.
Is this an important recall ie : safety related???
Has anyone else heard of this??
Would there be a charge for this, as I cant remember what the dealers said.

Also could this be what is causing a vibration when braking at 60 mph +.

Thanks.

Has anyone bought the repair manuals on CD from Dymet for the 1999

Bad earth on back lights

Hi,

I have a 1993 UK Golf, and when I indicate the fog light indicator on
the dash board blinks too.  When I have the lights on and indicate,
the indicators on the back flash, and so do the rear tail lights.
This says to me that I had a bad earth somewhere.  On my on Ford, I
took apart the back light cluster and found some corrosion which I
cleaned off and it all worked again, however on this car I can find no
corrosion.

I can’t even find the earth point, anyone have any ideas as to what I
should be looking for.  All the metal/wires I can see around the rear
light clusters are in good shape.

What does SR mean on a 1.6SR motor?

Hi,

I’m looking at a 1998 Golf IV Trendline.

It’s a 1.6L manual transmission.

On the motor it has written 1.6 SR.

Does anyone know what the SR stands for and what it does and if there are
other types of 1.6L motors that aren’t SRs?

Thanks

John

Annoying warning buzzer, newer cars

Does anyone know how to disable the warning buzzer on newer models like ’99
passat or ’00 Eurovan. I mean the one for low fuel, low wiper fluid etc.
It’s so loud it startles me (yah I’m high strung).

Thanks.

vw rabbit- starting problems

one night i went out to start the rabbit and it wouldn’t turn over
with the key.since then i’ve replaced the following
parts,alternater,starter and sylinoid,ignition coil, ignition
switch, fuseable links, the rabbit still will not start with the key.
I’ve talked to several parts places and the only vw dealership in
town, they all tell me that there isn;t a safety nutral switch on
vw’s.if this is the case why isn’t my rabbit not starting with the
key. if there is a safety nutral switch where is it and what is it
called.

re: project car

where are you located?? i’m in vegas.  I have a 89 golf gl that has a very
straight body…minor dings.  needs transmission, diff went out (5 speed
manual).  re-built engine was put in car a few years ago (no more then
5)…front end will probably need some attention…struts ya know.  recently
went thru the brakes completly and had left c/v and axle replaced.  car has
never been in an accident…no rust.  Looking to get rid of it, its just
been sitting for 6+ months now.  one of my favorite cars when i drove it.

can show pictures or answer any questions you may have
lookin to sell for around 1k-1200…

voltage problem in 84 scirocco

I just had to replace my battery in my 84 scirocco hoping it was just
the battery.  I checked the old battery with a votmeter and it read
12.55v with the car off.  As I tried to start the engine the voltage
dropped to about 4.5v and the engine wouldn’t turn over.  After
replacing the battery I got a somewhat higher reading before starting,
it dropped to about 10.55v while starting.  I am blabering on about
nothing.  I guess the important part is that with both bateries new
and old the alternator only uped the voltage to 13.23v with no
electronics on and 12.86v with al the electronics on.  I wonder was it
really the battery? Or time for a new alternator?
