Mercedes?

I just bought a 87′s Mercedes-Benz 190D, 5-Cyl.. would like to locate a good
service manual.

thanks a lot.

88 Jetta manual clutch issue

Hi folks… the other day I was teaching a new driver to drive manual on my 88 jetta. things worked fine when we started, after about 45 minutes of stalling/revving/typical new driver mistakes and the expected heavy clutch usage, i started to notice a strange burning sort of smell (like burning rubber perhaps? not too sure). about 10 minutes later she told me the clutch felt weird, so we switched spots and sure enough, the clutch was different, it engaged immediately when the pedal is depressed, no extra give at all in the pedal. i adjusted the clutch point manually, and let it rest overnight, but this morning after about a half hour of driving to work, it felt like it was right back to what it was before i adjusted it. i also noticed the clutch seemed to be slipping, definitely did once in 5th around 100km/hr…

i’m not much of a car repair type (the work i did on the jetta last night was me being guided step by step over the phone with a mechanic), but from what i’ve read and heard, it seems like the clutch may just be shot? any ideas as to what i need to do, or should i just find a mechanic who will put in a new clutch for me?

thanks in advance………jeremy.

O2 Sensors..

Lambda (O2, Oxygen, exhaust-gas) sensor has died on my 1996 MK3 8V GTI. I
got a copy of VAG-COM, made up the cable and read the fault codes. Joy…

My question is.. does anyone know what the differences between the different
O2 sensors are. I know about the heated and single wire etc. Looking at
ETKA, the part number for mine is "030 906 265 AP". At 125-quid from the
main dealer, so I’m hunting on ebay etc. I’ve come across a few with the
same part number, but different suffix letter (or letters). Can anyone
enlighten me as to what this means?

Thanks in adv.

'03 Passat rough idle, poor mileage (1.8T, Tip)

’03 passat (with Tiptronic) with 2K miles is getting 25 mpg highway
without AC on. Further the idle seems to be rough as hell. At idle the
Tach is stable, however you can feel a fairly large vibration.

The car was newly purchased early this year.

Any comments. What are you guys getting?

Thx,
gerald

Regulator or Alternator? ('87 Scirocco)

Using the 90A Bosch alternator in my Scirocco (8v), I am having the
following symptoms:

* starts up w/ voltmeter at about 13v for awhile, then drops to 12v or
sometimes a little below that
* with headlights on it will drop to about 11.5v, sometimes to 11v
* using turnsignals, the voltmeter will dip by .5-.7v with each blink
of the signal
* using headlights and fan will put it into the dangerzone

So is it the regulator or alternator?  I’d hate to swap the Bosch as a
core for a non-Bosch alternator if it’s just the regulator.

Rattles inside

My 2002 Jetta 1.8T had two different
rattles up close to the windshield under the
dash. One in front of driver and the other
closer to passenger. Both were found and
quieted by VW Techs.

I just traded it in for a 2003 Jetta GLS TDI. Yea!
Again I have two rattles. One in the driver B
Pillar and the other sounds like it is coming from
around the area of where you turn the dial for
the sunroof. I have an appointment next Friday
(12th) to have them taken care of.

I was wondering if this is normal. What
rattles have you had? Were you able to have
them taken care of, and what did they have to do
to fix?

Oh! I am so glad they got rid of the drop-down
cup holder. Now there are two real cup holders
in the consol. I know I am going to like this car!

Jetta Won't Start

Help!

My ’90 Jetta…1.8 Digifant, Auto trans….is dead…The battery   is fully
charged, the fuel pump is running, but the power windows, heater fan, and
starter do not seem to want to do anything…I’m thinking that it’s the
ignition switch, as I have working running and headlights, and the dome
light is working as well…all warning lights come on as they should, but as
soon as I turn the key to the "Start" position, I get nothing….The car has
been starting fine up until now….the Body shop said that they have been
moving the car around without issue…

HELP!

Thanks,

Peter
