Antenna Booster for 2002 Golf

My 2002 Golf has a factory radio (non-Monsoon system).
It works fine, except some nearby stations really fade
quickly as I leave town.  I drive 45 miles to a nearby
town a few times every week and these stations are
nearly gone after about 20 miles.  These are both AM
and FM stations with talk radio programs that I like.

I suppose the problem could be that these are just
low-powered stations and I am out of luck (can’t
amplify non-existent signals).

Anyway, I visited a local car stereo place today and in
a moment of weakness I bought an AM/FM antenna booster
for $20.

I’ve never installed any kind of car audio equipment.
Is this sort of thing easy to do?  Will I need to remove
the radio?  If so, will this cause problems with the radio
(password/whatever)?  Do I need special tools?

Also, someone told me my car already has an antenna booster.
How do I check for this?  If so, I guess I should get a
refund for my booster (unless it’s okay to use two boosters).

I appreciate any help anyone can send, as I am clearly a rookie
and need help!

Thanks.

Driver side door won't open on my VW Cabriolet

Something is apparently jammed in the locking mechanism for the driver side
door of my 1988 VW Cabriolet convertible because I cannot get it open with
the key, or by trying to open it inside or outside of the car – and I have
yanked on it pretty forcefully. Yes, I’ve pulled up the little locking knob.

Other than just destroying the door to get it open, what else can I do?
Thanks.

82 rabbit weatherstripping

I get an awful wind noise through the door seams.  It appears that the
door gaskets have gone to hell on my pickup.  I have tried timmons,
jcwhitney, motorworks, and adirondack.  I cant find the simple rubber
replacements.  I DONT want to get taken to the cleaners by the dealer.
Is there generic gasket that would do a good job of blocking the wind?

sluggishness and cruise control problems

I took my 2003 Passat in for "engine light" service a few weeks ago.
They apparantly replaced one of the ignition coils.  Ran great until
this past week.

Then not only did it suddenly develop bouts of "sluggishness" (poor
accelleration, rougher idle), the cruise control doesn’t work.

While I wait for the service appointment, does this sound like anything
in particular?  I was a bit surprised that they both went out at about
the same time.

It smells like acetone or something electrical burning ….
Can see black smoke coming out.
Smell quickly disappears after the engine is turned off.
What is the problem?

Fuel in the oil

Recently my 2002 series 4 Golf developed a very strange smell when the
engine is running.
It smells like acetone or something electrical burning ….

I’ve just checked the oil….It’s filled to the correct level on the dip
stick. I smelled the dip stick and it smells of petrol..
I think fuel is getting in to the oil…
The car is booked in for it’s second service to morrow.
What could be causing the problem?

94 Jetta OBD code extraction?

I’ve read in the 94 Jetta owner’s manual by Bentley that you can read the
error codes out by shorting a pin on the connector and turning on the
ignition switch and count the blinking of the Check Engine Light
indicator. I read this and was not able to make the indicator blink. Has
anyone had success using a similar procedure? If so, how did you do it?

Thanks, Ron
