Does anybody here have first-hand experience trying to get a factory A2
seat to slide into the A3 rails?
I just had the seat out of my GTI VR6, and it seems to be mounted the
exact same way as my old 1988 GTI 16V’s seats. (I can’t measure the A2′s
rail widths any more, since I don’t have one.) I want to yank the ugly
greens out of the GTI and put in a lower (maybe even hard) bucket for
competition, as my helmet is in constant contact with the sunroof. Since
it takes all of 15 seconds and no tools to remove the seats from the
factory rails, I want to go down to the junk yard and get a cheap seat to
strip the mounts from. Being able to use a worn out A2′s seat hardware
would be a big plus in the cost department, as not too many A3′s are being
parted out yet locally…..

I measured up the A3 rails and they’re a touch wider than the A2 rails, though
I don’t remember by how much. I know that you can separate the brackets from
the seats as I’ve seen a guy around here with seats out of a Jetta GTX in his
A3 Golf and my brother’s Scirocco has seats out of an 80 GTI.
