I need to recharge the AC on both a 1982 Rabbit Diesel and
a 1988 VW GTI 16V. Unfortunately, the Bentley manual
skips AC altogether. I need to know which nipple is the
low-pressure side and which is the high-pressure side
on both of the cars listed above. On the Rabbit, both
nipples are located near the compressor. On the GTI,
One is located on the passenger side of the car at the
rear of the engine compartment and the other is located
at the front of the compartment above the radiator. Could
someone identify which is the high and low side on either
or both of these cars. Or, tell me how I can figure out
which is the high and the low.

High side should be between the compressor and the condensor up
near the radiator. Low side should be between the compressor and the
evaporator inside the car.

Run the system for about 5 mins.. The hot side is the high pressure side.
