I’m strongly considering purchasing a VW Passat TDI. Not being
terribly mechanical, but liking very much the fact that this cars
seems to offer a wonderful mix of fuel economy and feeling of power/
torque, I asked an engineer friend of mine what he thought about
the car. He knew of its excellent reputation in Germany, which is
comforting, but was worried about the longevity of the engine, since
it apparently operates at very high speed (and of course, like previous
generation diesles, under great pressure) or revolutions compared
to its predecessors.
Comments? I’m aware that VW has an excellent 10 year warranty on
their power train, but nevertheless would like to be in the strongest
position possible to avoid mechanical breakdown while out on the road.
I have test driven this car twice now, and the feeling of speed/power
it offers just boggles the mind. I’d expect it to get more like 17
mpg, rather than its 45! :)
Anyway, all help app[reciated, and I’d be anxious to hear other comments
any of you may have on the car as well.
Also, anyone know if the TDI van is slated to come to the US?
