Every day the leak on my 1980 PUs fuel tank seems to get a little
worse… any suggestions to what I can use to fix this short of
removing the tank and getting it welded. Does anyone know where I can
get a NEW tank for my Pick-up? The dealer laughed at me when I asked
them to order in one.
Thanks!

If it’s a puncture wound in the bottom or side, I once saw a boiler patch
used to fix the problem on a 73 Buick. It’s basically a wing molly screw
with a big washer and neoprene gasket on the outside. If you have a seam
or weld leak, there’s some (epoxy?) gas tank repair stuff that Wal-Mart
sells that may hold it.
If you have general rust damage, you may want to consider an aftermarket
racing fuel cell, or take a look at marine gas tanks, although one or both
may be illegal on the highway. I’m assuming that you can’t find a new
tank, and that junkyards in your area also puncture them with a pick on
arrival…..
