Golf & Jetta IV

Can anyone give an estimate on when we should expect the next generation
of Golf’s and Jetta’s.  I thought that I had read they would be 1997
models.  If this were true, doesn’t that mean they’d be available in the
fall of 1996.  If you can elaborate it would be helpful.  Thanks.

I’ve read somewhere in a South African car magazine it (A4) will be out
    Jan/Feb 1998 in Germany….

    – I was told today by a salesman at a VW dealer that the 97′ Golf and Jetta’s
are now only expected to be put out in the market sometime in 1998, however,
we can expect a newer version of the Passat in late 97′

I really doubt the A4s will be available until the middle of 1997 at the earliest.
I saw a picture of one in a recent C&D I believe, and they stated it would be a
    1998 model.

It looks to be a real improvement (IMHO) over the A3s. The picture was that of a
Golf. The things I noticed which were really different was the round headlights
which looked similar to those on the Acura Integra, and the C pillar was much
narrower than the current Golf. What I would really like to see is the next Jetta.
I think this is the car VW really needs to shape up. The current model is too
    Fat-&-Frumpy looking.

Yeah, that is most likely the Recaro SRD seat.  I have one in my car
(for the driver of course!).  That is a "higher" end seat in the Recaro
line.  Recaro does make a lot of other seats, of which some are a bit
    lower than that.

The cheapest way is to get seats out of other VW’s.  I didn’t have much
money and got some very supportive seats out of a Scitocco GT for $125.00.
THere are lots of nice VW seats for under $450 a pair in junkyards (better
looking than mine).  Corbeau and Cobra make less spendy seats as well.

I have recently needed to buy a new driver’s seat for my GTI.  After
looking into OEM ($700 get real) and junk yards (What??? we’re so close
to Mexico you haven’t seen a VW with seats in months…hmmm)  I came
across a company called Flowfit.   They make no bones about being Recaro
copies.  they are $349 including mounting brackets and if you get two
they are $599 for the pair (almost positive)  They will do custom fabrics
and you can send them the fabric from your old seats and they will use it
    (if it’s worn don’t bother)

I think the number is 1 -800-FLOWFIT…I’ll recheck that this afternoon…

I’ll let everybody know what I think of ‘em

BTW my mechanic swears by them in his racing cars as well as his daily
    driver…

    Later…

I highly recommend sending them your own cloth (leather).  My (stock)
material wore out in a few years.  Actually they began to fall apart.
    The foam is OK, though.

My 15year old Recaro LXBs on the other hand are just now beginning to
    split at the seams.

    OK I was wrong…the number is 1-800-flofits (356-3487) or (310) 424-9370
