2000 VW Jetta – Temp gauge

Hi,

I have a 2000 Jetta VR6.

On my way in to work this afternoon, the car was bucking a little bit.
I noticed the temp gauge was at the lowest level.

On my way home, I didnt get any bucking, but my temp gauge went to
after halfway and the back down to the lowest level.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Brian

Neutral/Park/Backup Light Switch

I need a neutral/park/backup light switch for my 1988 VW (Rabbit) Cabriolet
Convertible with automatic transmission. Please note: Automatic
Transmission, not Manual.
This switch is located inside the center console just below the gear shift
selector. It has a group of 6 (I think) brass protrusions that act as switch
contacts, in 2 rows of 3 contacts.

I also need the black plastic lightbulb holder that illuminates the little
P,N,R,D,1,2 symbols on the console. This lightbulb holder is located inside
the center console and to the left of the gear selector as you face forward.

Anyone know where I can find these items?

Thanks

84 Rabbit GTI

Question on Alternator,   What alternators will work as replacement? I was
told by a guy at the wrecking yard that all the Rabbits used the same
alternator… is this true? can I go take a aternator off any rabbit and use
it?  or will a later A2 Golf alternator mount up? any ideas would be great.

Thanks

96 Cabrio 2.0 stumbles off acceleration?

I’ve a 96 Cabrio with the 2.0L engine.  When backing off the accelerator the
engine seems to ‘stumble’ somewhat.

That happens driving along at just about any speed.  For example, in traffic
moving along at about 40mph and the pace slows so I’ll back off the
accelerator.  The engine seems to "cut out" for an instant, just a
split-second.   It doesn’t quit entirely and doesn’t *feel* like there’s any
sort of electrical loss of power.  It almost seems like the fuel supply is
being cut for less than a tenth of a second. The car jerks slightly and then
everything’s fine. It’s entirely repeatable.

I recently had it serviced because of this problem along with a pronounced
"bogging" during initial acceleration and the idiot light being lit.  The
engine code was for the O2 sensor (replaced) and they cleaned out the
throttle body.  It was rather gummed up and showed signs of a drip or two on
the air filter.   The car’s got 68k miles on it and hasn’t had any other
service done beyond oil, plugs, cap, rotor, wires and filters (which were
all replaced a month of so before the recent work).  Other than this it’s
been a truly great car.

Before I take this back to the shop and complain I’d like to hear what folks
think might be the problem.  I’m less than pleased that the shop didn’t
resolve the problem and overcharged me in the process (let’s not go THERE
yet).

Thanks,
-Bill Kearney

While on the subject of backup light switches…

While we’re on the subject of backup light switches, I was attempting to
track down difficulties with mine yesterday.  I have an ’89 Cabriolet
with the manual transmission, though, and at times it seems to be a
"kit" with few clues (due to a previous owner…).  The backup light
switch connector I found upon the transaxle appears to have four male
prongs in a row though after seeing a photograph on the carpartstogo
site, I shall have to take a look at it and see if there may be a fifth
prong arranged by itself.  According to the part listing upon the
carpartstogo site, this would indicate that it is an upshift indicating
switch even though there is nothing in the instrument cluster that leads
me to believe that the car has had an upshift indicator and there are
only two wires (with no white nylon plastic plug housing, only female
spade terminals that appear original and possibly once housed in a
plug) that I have found leaving the wire bundle under the hood.  The
pair of wires I found and tested are definitely the backup lights, as
well.  As far as I know, neither the instrument cluster nor the
engine/transaxle have been swapped out (but we know what assumptions
cause, eh?) but the combination does seem odd.  To make a long story a
bit shorter, here are my questions:  Is it possible to connect the
backup lights to two of the prongs (I’m not worried about having an
upshift indicator in the least) and, if so, which ones would apply?
And, if this is not a solution, is it possible (or practical) to
convert it to the two-prong switch?  I suppose I could always connect a
toggle switch to the two wires and post a "preflight checklist" on the
dash, eh?  ;-)  (chuckle)  Thanks in advance for any help! (By the way,
I just went out and looked further at it and it is the five-prong,
L-shaped switch.)

how to improve milage on 87 polo

hi there,
am trying to improve my milage on my 1987 1050cc VW polo. from my
odometer calculations i have been getting around 20mpg for the last 2
years.i can remember doing better than 35mpg for urban
driving.observations so far:

-odometer: drove a bit behind a friends car.mine is 9% slower than his,
but this translates to a incr of 2mpg only (i want 35mpg!!)
-spark plugs: mine (compared to the haynes color page on plugs) they
are a nice tan brown, not black with carbon or oily.gapped ok
-air/oil filter: changed annually
-wheels: jacked car and spun each to see if they are binding.
-choke: rpm does actually go down from around 2000 to 900 after 1 minute
-ign timing: spot on with strobe
-distr cap & rotor: changd last year,no improvement.
-carb: cleaned out float bowl and jets this year.
-tyres:kept inflated correctly with my own pump
-boot: only spare tyre & jack. no junk

i am at loss of what to try before taking it to a garage.
i am contemplating polishing exterior and removing mirrors to gain a
few mpg !

also: i pulled each lead off one at a time with the engine running and
each cylinder appeared to be contributing well.
i have never had the ignition leads changed. do new leads give better
mileage or is it either it works or it doesnt part?

thanks for patiently reading my post

Help! volkswagen monsoon amplifier problem?

Hi guys,

I’m new to this so I will try to make it short.
I recently bought a 2000 VW jetta with, I think, a monsoon stereo in it. It
does not say monsoon on it and it does not say monsoon when you power it
up, but it has 8 speakers, the amp and the the HU with tape deck and cd
player with cd changer hook up. Anyway the rear speakers were not working
so I had the HU removed to discover the wires to the amp were cut, so I
reconnected them and like magic they began to work again.  Once I turned
the car off then back on the speakers cut out so I reconnected it again and
they once again began to work, so I left it alone. I than went to turn the
car on the next day and the battery was dead, I reached around to the trunk
compartment to feel a warm amp that was probably running all night long.
Does anyone know if this is a wiring problem or an amplifier problem, or
maybe a HU problem.
Please help me on this…I am ready to rip the entire stereo out and tie it
to my bumper and drag it down the street.
Thanks,Mike
