I have a 91 Vanagon with water cooled 90 hp engine. It accelerates
surprisingly well and has no problem with 70 - 75 mph and would probably
go faster. At steady 70 I get about 19 mpg. I have never carried
anything extremely heavy, although it should be able to as they are used
as work and delivery vans in Europe. (I even saw one there with a lift
and bucket, for working on power lines, etc.). I don't think I'd
recommend pulling a trailer with just a 90 hp engine, but I have no
first hand experience.
