Can anyone tell the ramifications of having a 60-70 lb. box in the
trunk of an 86 jetta? How would it effect
steering-understeer/oversteer? to what extent?
Thanks, Eric

I have two 12" Shappire’s in a sealed box. Not sure how much it weighs..
It feels like you always have an extra passenger in the car. SO whenever
I race, it comes out!

Saphire’s That was supposed to read. As for handling, I find it
actually gives me a bit more traction in the snow on corners. But on
dry pavement, I prefer to take them out.

Build an enclosure in which you can place the back of it flush up against
the rear seat, with the woofers on the opposite side facing the rear of
the trunk. It will kind of look like a typical hatchback-type enclosure,
but with the woofers on the "back" instead. I have a VW Fox with this
setup and it sounds real good, plus the weight of the box is centered more
over the rear axel which helps balance handling (at least in my case). If
there are any further questions, just e-mail me…

If this box is a subwoofer, then you can control under/oversteer with
the stereo’s fade control. ie., decrease fade to the subwoofer to
decrease understeer and increase fade to decrease oversteer.
