Hey,
yesterday I heard a message on the radio here in Germany, that vw recommends
certain models (golf, jetta, passat..) of the years `83 to `87 (?) to have
their coolant system repaired. They will pay for it.
Does anyone know details about this? What`s wrong with the cars? Will owners
get informed from vw?

Saw this at the start of last week on TV in the UK. 105,000 cars made in
the middle to late 80′s are to be recalled. Since that includes my ’88
A2 16V I’m awaiting a letter, nothing yet though.
If I don’t hear by Monday I’ll contact VW in the UK (I guess the problem
is the same in Germany) and post information here.

I recieved a notice from VW last fall for a callback on my 88 Fox GL
Sport.
The heater lines that allow coolant to run from the engine to the heater
panel in the passenger’s compartment may burst onto the driver’s leg
(causing mild discomfort) so they will install a pressure-relief valve
somewhere. Good luck.
