My father had a 93 Golf GL (A3) that had passive seatbelts (eewwww…)
that did not work right. The passenger side would not retract under any
circumstances, even after three replacements. Also, the hatch started to
rust within a year. After several visits to the dealer (Howard Cooper,
Ann Arbor, MI – _not_ one of the good ones), my father ran into the
regional supervisor, who looked it over, and decided to replace the car
with a brand new 95 GL, at no cost. If you are having trouble, I suggest
you go over your dealers head.
