Anybody know where I might be able to find weather stripping for at least
the drivers’ side of my 85 GTi? On rainy days the water just pours in and
has destroyed my door panel. (cardboard and water don’t mix well) Thanks
for any info.

this type of stuff for all vw’s.

For a quicker fix: take the cardboard panel off and replace the plastic
that was there to begin with, I used a pretty heavy grade of plastic and
glued it on (though finding a glue that would stick to the paint was a
pain) Duct tape will work for a little while if you do it right. There are
holes on the bottom of the door to funnel the water to the outside I have
had to do this to two of my doors as the plastic got so old it didn’t work
any more. I would love to have new moulding but I don’t have the $$$ (you
could also move to a drier part of the country!)

I thought it would be provocative to compare the VW 1.9 TDI with the new
Rover 2.0 SDi, both available in the UK now. At last someone has a
competitive engine. (I am aware of forthcoming improvements from VW,
which will be necessary for them to stay competitive!)

This is off-topic, Ian, but I’ve got to comment.
Converting the price of the Golf in Canadian dollars yields over
CAN$29800. In Canada, the GTI VR6 *lists* for around CAN$26000.
